If you drive about 200 miles northwest of Chattanooga, you will arrive in Only, Tennessee. There are not a lot of fancy restaurants or clubs in the town of just over 2,000 residents, but they do have the Turney Center Industrial Complex, a medium level security prison.
According to a recent news report, a Department of Children’s Services worker was arrested and accused of trying to smuggle drugs into the facility. She has been charged with possession with intent to sell and deliver and felony introduction of narcotics into a penal facility.
According to the Department of Corrections, the Turney prison houses mainly inmates who are required to perform community services. Among their tasks: providing labor to state and local government entities in surrounding counties, as well as labor to non-profit organizations in the area. Many of the prison’s programs are devoted to helping inmates acquire life skills, education and drug treatment.
The 28-year-old DCS employee was a case manager who worked with families that have children at risk of winding up behind bars.
She is accused by officials of trying to smuggle into the facility 75 suboxone strips. The prescription medication is used in opioid addiction treatment. She was reportedly searched as part of a proactive effort to curb substance use at Turney.
Tennessee Department of Corrections officials said officers found the strips on her person. She was later fired for failing to comply with DCS regulations.
Those facing drug-related allegations should decline to speak to investigators or prosecutors until they have spoken with a Chattanooga law firm experienced in protecting rights and freedom.
