Man and woman charged after drug raid

by | May 31, 2018 | Drug Crimes

Authorities in Tennessee say that two people were taken into custody after official raided a condominium and storage unit used by the pair. Police say that they seized cocaine, heroin and Xanax as well as two loaded handguns. They also reportedly took possession of two vehicles, $2,473, cook plates, generators and chemicals that are generally used in creating meth.

One of the individuals taken into custody was a 33-year-old man who was charged with starting the process of creating and conspiring to distribute meth. He was also charged with multiple counts of drug possession in a school zone and being a felon in possession of a gun. The other person taken into custody was a 33-year-old woman. She was charged with three counts of drug possession in a school zone and conspiring to distribute meth.

Individuals who are found to be in possession of a controlled substance or drug paraphernalia could face significant consequences if convicted. However, there is no guarantee that a person will be convicted on any charge that he or she may face. Individuals who are facing criminal charges may benefit from consulting with an attorney to help create a defense against the charges.

For instance, it may be possible to argue that an individual was compelled to possess or distribute a controlled substance. It might also be possible to assert that evidence was found in an illegal manner. That may result in substances seized in a raid being ruled inadmissible in court. An attorney may work to cast doubt on the veracity of police or witness testimony during a trial. If successful, this may help a person obtain a favorable outcome in his or her case.
