Country star Sam Hunt arrested for DUI in Tennessee

by | Dec 1, 2019 | Drunk Driving

According to audio from a 911 call, country star Sam Hunt lived up to the title of his song “Make You Miss Me” when he recently drove his black SUV the wrong way down a Tennessee street around 4 a.m. The singer was soon pulled over by police and then arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol.

One caller told the police dispatcher that Hunt was “just driving like there was nothing wrong,” even though the singer “almost hit me head on.” Another caller had a different perspective on Hunt’s driving style, however, saying he was “hauling some ass in the fast lane.”

It should be noted that police officers did not mention excess speed in the arrest report, though bloodshot eyes and an odor of alcohol were both mentioned. An officer also wrote that Hunt apparently tried to give a credit card to the officer instead of his driver’s license.

Hunt agreed to a breath test after he was pulled over by Nashville police and apparently had a BAC (blood alcohol content) of 0.173 percent. In Tennessee, the legal threshold is less than half that (0.08 percent).

The next day, Hunt sent out a message on social media, apologizing for “a poor and selfish decision” to drive after attending a friend’s show at a club.

The 34-year-old’s arrest as he was mounting a comeback after a year away from the music business. He made his initial splash two years ago with his hit “Montevallo” album, filled with his signature country-R&B sound.

In addition to being charged with DUI, Hunt was accused of driving with an open container in his vehicle. There was no mention in the news articles if he had yet hired a criminal defense attorney.
