2 facing charges after authorities seize MDMA

On Jan. 29, two Tennessee residents were taken into police custody following an investigation into an alleged drug trafficking ring. According to authorities, the two individuals were thought to be part of an organization on the West Coast that wanted to start a distribution cell in the Tennessee area.

During the investigation into the alleged distribution cell, Murfreesboro police and detectives from the Rutherford County’s sheriff’s office learned that a delivery was scheduled to be made to a residence in Murfreesboro. About 5 pounds of MDMA were reportedly seized from the residence. The two individuals who were taken into custody were identified as a 23-year-old man and a 36-year-old man.

The assistant director of the drug investigation division stated that the form of the drug that was delivered could have potentially been used in thousands of capsules and pills. The two men were ultimately both facing charges for possession of schedule VI drugs for resale in addition to possession of schedule I drugs. They both remained in Rutherford County Jail on $100,000 bond.

In Tennessee, drug charges are taken extremely seriously and can result in a number of legal consequences that could have a major impact on a person’s future. For example, a conviction on a drug trafficking charge could result in years or decades in prison depending on the type and amount of the drug. Further, the person may be unable to find employment or housing once he or she is released. A criminal law attorney is qualifed to review the case and the evidence that came out of the authorities’ investigation. Depending on the circumstances, the attorney may challenge the charges if the authorities conducted an illegal search and seizure or otherwise did not follow proper procedures.
