{"id":46617,"date":"2019-12-16T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2019-12-16T06:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/duplicate-3504444.findlaw4.flsitebuilder.com\/blog\/2019\/12\/hamilton-county-sheriffs-deputy-indicted-on-25-felonies\/"},"modified":"2020-03-18T10:25:22","modified_gmt":"2020-03-18T15:25:22","slug":"hamilton-county-sheriffs-deputy-indicted-on-25-felonies","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/dev.internetfactfinder.com\/levittandlevitt\/blog\/2019\/12\/hamilton-county-sheriffs-deputy-indicted-on-25-felonies\/","title":{"rendered":"Hamilton County sheriff&#8217;s deputy indicted on 25 felonies"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A Hamilton County Sheriff&#8217;s deputy was recently indicted on 44 criminal charges &#8220;pertaining to incidents he was involved in while on duty in an official capacity.&#8221; Charges against 26-year-old Deputy Daniel Wilkey include 25 felonies, including <a href=\"\/criminal-defense\/sex-crimes\/\">rape, sexual battery<\/a>, extortion and reckless endangerment.<\/p>\n<p>He&rsquo;s charged with misdemeanors that include assault, stalking and reckless driving.<\/p>\n<p>The Chattanooga Times Free Press reports that the charges against Wilkey involve allegations about misconduct during traffic stops, including a forced baptism, illegal drug searches and groping female minors.<\/p>\n<p>A woman says Wilkey groped her during a search this past February, asked if she had been &ldquo;saved&rdquo; and then forced her to choose between being arrested and being dunked in Soddy Lake in a &ldquo;baptism.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>This past July, the Hamilton County District Attorney General released a dash cam recording that showed Wilkey and another deputy &ldquo;kicking, punching and stripping the pants off a handcuffed&rdquo; man before they allegedly performed a roadside body cavity search.<\/p>\n<p>The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation investigated the case before giving its findings to the Hamilton County prosecutor.<\/p>\n<p>The handcuffed man has filed a lawsuit against the county and its two deputies. Lawsuits against Wilkey involve allegations of groping during a traffic stop and the alleged forced baptism.<\/p>\n<p>According to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.timesfreepress.com\/news\/local\/story\/2019\/dec\/10\/hamilton-deputy-indicted\/510298\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">news report<\/a>, Wilkey was hired by the county in February of last year after leaving the Rhea County Sheriff&#8217;s Office six months earlier.
